piano guidelines
Piano students should prepare to perform 1-2 pieces they have studied previously or have learned on their own. Pieces may be classical or contemporary in style. Beginners with no experience do not need to prepare a piece, but may learn a simple song by ear if they choose (Twinkle Twinkle, Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc).

At this session, students will be assessed on their level of preparation and potential as a pianist. Prior musical and theoretical knowledge will be evaluated. Students will also be asked their musical goals and reasons for pursuing piano lessons. Please bring in any sheet music or music books you have worked from in past.
vocal guidelines
Vocal students should prepare 2 contrasting selections to perform at the assessment. Repertoire styles may include musical theatre, Disney, pop, or jazz. Please find or create an accompaniment track to perform to. Try www.pianotrax.com for custom piano accompaniments, or www.youtube.com for karaoke tracks. Please email the web link or mp3 accompaniment to rachelle@arcmusic.ca before your audition. Students may also accompany themselves on piano or guitar.

Very young beginners may learn a simple song such as Twinkle, Twinkle or other piece of their choosing.

At this session, students will be assessed on their level of preparation and potential as a vocalist. Tone, pitch and range will be assessed and prior musical knowledge evaluated. Students will also be asked their musical goals and reasons for pursuing voice lessons. Please bring in any sheet music, repertoire, or music books you have worked from in past. Professional or advanced students should bring their performing resume.
